Jen Needs a Scooter to Keep Her Job

Jen needs our help to keep her job! She has a permanent disability and is fundraising for a full size mobility scooter that is not covered by insurance. Jen has exhausted public and nonprofit funding options, as well as every temporary solution. After two years and multiple devices, she has figured out the scooter that she needs to get around at work and get to see folks she cares about. This site is one part of Jen's fundraising strategy.

Jen moved to the Bay Area to be closer to communities that are near and dear to her, and to get away from the icy east coast that was not good for her body. She has a great place to live, a beautiful beloved cat Sweet Pea, a great job, and her sweetie moved next door from NYC! There are a zillion awesome things to do, and she has really really wonderful friends who value interdependence. Now if she could only get around!

This past August, Jen's office moved from the center of campus, to the outskirts. She can no longer accomplish important parts of her job. She needs a sustainable mobility solution for December - the crunch time for her program. This scooter is what Jen needs to zoom around her hilly college campus, whizzing her fabulous fat queer self inside and out, to run errands, push papers, and nudge bureaucracies along. This scooter has lasting power and will breeze into accessible bathrooms as if it were no trouble at all.

Not being able to get around is really isolating. Those who have met Jen know how vital her voice and presence are, and how much we need her to be an active participant in our communities.
