Jem's Volunteering in Africa

Donation protected
Hi I'm Jem, a final year biomedical science student.

Alongside this I am also a single mum to two beautiful girls, suffer from a chronic pain and chronic fatigue syndrome and also have an anxiety disorder.
Despite all this I keep fighting, and that includes my hard work towards a career that will not only give me and my family a future but will also serve to help the greater community in medicine.

So why have I brought you here today? Well on my journey to a medical career I wish to embark on a placement in East Africa to shadow doctors there, on wards and in surgery, to learn the differences between healthcare here at home and in developing countries.
As well as this in my free time I will have the opportunity to volunteer in the local community and also visit sites of cultural interest.

This is a life changing opportunity for anyone but I also want to give hope to other women out there in my, or similar situations. That despite everything we may have against us, we can do anything!

But in order to achieve this dream, I need to raise sufficient funds and this is where you can help! Your donations will help pay for my placement, including accommodation, food, support in and out of the country and will also benefit the hospital I will be placed at by donations of much needed equipment.

By sponsoring me you will allow me to take part in this life changing experience, gain real insight into my chosen career and benefit in an in depth understanding of global healthcare, as well as the opportunity to help those in a developing country.
