Numerous friends have wanted to do this for me, but I felt that this should be my responsability. I thank them for their love and support and the courage to sign on and place my request for help.
On May 25th 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. So far I've had 5 surgeries and am expected at least 3 more. The next one will be on September 25th of this year. After my first surgery, I wound up in the hospital for a total of 63 days. I'm hoping that won't be the case this time, but the expected time is 2 weeks.
Between my first surgery and now, I've gone through 30 days straight of high rad radiation therapy and 8 weeks of chemotherapy. Since my bone cancer developed in my head and neck, the radiation burns to the interior of my mouth have placed me in the hospital for a week of recovery.
Right now I'm receiving SS disability to the amount of $745 per month. But I am not yet eligable for insurance so I am trying to pay for my insurance from my previous employer. They were wonderful enough to keep me on staff for over a year while I was on medical leave, but that went above and beyond what was required and what they could truly afford. By keeping me as a staff member, they could not hire another person for my position causing my wonderful coworkers to cover my duties during that years time. As of this past month, my insurance rate is $780 per month. As you can see, that uses up my entire disability check and leaves me in the red each month. There is nothing left for transportation to and from doctor appointments, and since I live in a rural area, that means drive times of upto 4 hours one way.
The funds I'm requesting are calculated on covering the expenses I will need to cover the insurance balance, transportation, food and household bills. I also have past due bills for at home care from nurses that were taking care of me during my initial return home and the variety of wound care required.
My financial situation is becoming more and more painful to think about each day. I know fighting cancer also requires hope and being positive. I'm trying and yet when the bills come in, I find myself wanting to break down instead.
