We are newleyweds (Mr and Mrs Tansey), married 29th June 2018.
We both decided it was important to give back to the world so decided to spend the first month of our honeymoon volunteering.
Our first stop is Mombasa, Kenya where we are volunteering with NVS in 'Hope Childrens Centre' and 'Siblings Orphanage and School'.
'Hope Childrens Centre' has 250 children whose education and lunchtime meal is funded through donations. We are currently funding a painting project which is painting the inside and outside of the school as well as providing paint for the blackboards. These kids play with pieces of rubbish on the ground and make do with old bits of wire as a skipping rope.
'Siblings Orphanage' has 100 children and is in dire need of basics such as plates and cups. They even struggle to afford washing up liquid meaning that sickness at this orphanage is hard to combat. These children desperately need pencils, lined paper and blackboards. Most children are sharing pencils and work books. Most of them have not sat exams this year as the funds are not there for them.
We desperately want to be able to help these children so that was why we decided to volunteer for the first month of our honeymoon!
We both feel so lucky to be in the position to get married and we wanted to give back by volunteering and doing something challenging together as husband and wife.
Your help and support is hugely appreciated not just by us, but the charity IVHQ and the children at Hope Children's centre and Siblings Orphanage and School in Mombasa that we will get to volunteer with.
So it is transparent and clear where the money is going we thought to break down the costs of this volunteer trip.
Registration with IVHQ - 400 USD
1 month volunteer project in Mombasa - 1000 USD
Vaccinations and prescriptions - 1400 USD
Flights to Kenya - 1200 USD
Volunteer certificate - 260 USD
Kenyan E-visa- 250 USD
Total cost for 2 volunteers - 4510 USD
This is the basic cost before water, daily transport and resources that are badly needed in these orphanages.
Your help would be massively appreciated as we have used our wedding cash gifts to fund this volunteer project.
