I have been SCUBA diving for over 35 years and have made the dive on the shipwreck William H MacAllister in 2016 without any trouble.  On September 16, 2017 we made this dive again. I was trying to clear dangerous lines from the wreck so others divers would not get caught in them. A small down rigger line caught my gear and I had to rescue myself by cutting it. This dive in Lake Champlain is 150 + feet and 47 degrees. I had done my safty stops on the way up but had shoulder soreness on the surface. My dive partner told me to get back in the water to recompress for another 10 minutes. I did this but became weak after 15 minutes on the surface. I got up to pull the anchor and fell on my deck. My partner recognized the symptoms of "Diver's Bends" and I crawled onto his boat while he arranged emergency services in Burlington. I was later flown at low altitude to Mass. General, in Boston where the only hyperberic chamber for divers is located. Before getting into the chamber 6.5 hours later,  I witnessed my right side shake and become paralized. Within 24 hours, I was totally paralized.
The reccommended treatment is to have a neurological doctor track my recovery and direct the proper physical thearapy for a rapid recovery. My Medicare insurance does not cover this treatment.
The funds are needed immediately as several nerve paths have been established that would insure I returned to the workforce and not be stuck in nursing care. Studies of this injury discuss that what ever is not recovered within a year will be lost. I have the chance to walk again and I want to work hard to regain this ability.
The funds will help me and my business continue to service the waterfront's normal needs and assist with some emergency services as I have been doing for several years. Returning me to a tax paying, selfemployed worker is cheaper than putting me on disabillity.
There may be grants available to fund this work but I am not aware of any.
The current rehab facility I am stuck in wants to send me home in a month when my Medicare runs out. They have no interest in completing my rehabilitation. The best rehab facility for me may be located out of state and that is where I want to be. Advanced physical theraphy facilities may cost more than $1000 a day.
