Jeff Kingsley Family ALS Fund

My name is Charles and I am asking for help for my dear friend Jeff Kingsley and his family. About a year ago they were devastated to find out that Jeff has ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. There is currently no cure for ALS, it is eventually fatal.

For as long as I’ve known him, Jeff has been both very community minded and actively involved with his temple. He was always quick to pick up a check or help a friend in need. Jeff taught me the Jewish concept of Tsedakah, that helping those in need is not a matter of “charity” but rather a requirement of righteous behavior.  He and his wife, Karen, have taught their children the importance of devoting time to helping others. The children have participated in packaging and delivering Purim baskets, baked and delivered Challah to the elderly, and helped shop for and pack Holiday presents for school district families in need.

Unfortunately, Jeff is largely unable to participate these days and he has been forced to stop working. He is mostly confined to a wheelchair and his breathing has begun to deteriorate. Karen is working hard to support the family in addition to Jeff's disability benefits. Much of their savings have gone to Jeff’s medical expenses and to making their home accessible for a person with limited mobility (i.e. Installation costs for wheelchair ramp)

Since they have no way of knowing the speed with which this disease will move they would ideally like to remain in their current home till the end of the school year so that both Jeff and the kids’ lives are disrupted as little as possible.
