We at The Refectory are a family. And so it is with great sorrow that I let you know of the challenges currently facing one of our family members.

Jeff Elasky, general manager at The Refectory, has been with us for over 35 years. He has helped to build a restaurant with unparalleled service, exquisite food and a wine selection that is unsurpassed. In 1991, Jeff was the architect of our award-winning wine program, with The Refectory receiving one of only six new Wine Spectator Grand Awards that year!

About three months ago, Jeff left work on a Tuesday night after a major wine event he had planned for quite some time, and went to the ER with some difficulty breathing and general weakness. Five days later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Jeff is battling stage 4 soft tissue sarcoma, undergoing strenuous chemotherapy treatments every 15 days that require five days in the hospital. He continues to pray for healing, yet knows the Lord will choose the best path, whatever it may be. Above all, and despite everything, he is positive and at peace.

The Refectory has been blessed by the privilege of Jeff’s presence and the pleasure of his friendship. Therefore, we have created a Go Fund Me page to assist Jeff and his family during this difficult time.

Through the years he has been committed and dedicated to his profession. He is one of the hardest working people with the highest integrity and ethics beyond reproach who always puts the needs of others before his own.

To that end, once Jeff learned of this undertaking, he made his strong desire known that he does not want all of these funds just to be for him, but wants to use his situation to help others.

In keeping with Jeff’s desire and vision, please know that 50 percent of these proceeds will assist Jeff and his family, but that the additional 50 percent will be used to establish a fund through The Refectory that aims to help others families working in independent restaurants that face similar trials.

Without question Jeff Elasky has been a key to our success and 40 years in business. We greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers for him and his family, as well as any assistance you might be able to offer.

We believe that wine is an every day beverage to be enjoyed with food in celebrating life. And so finally, I ask that you raise a glass to Jeff, his family and his irreplaceable part of The Refectory family.

To all,

It is with a deep sadness and profound sense of loss that I share with you all that Jeff Elasky went home to be with the LORD at 5:33 am Sunday, October 2, 2016.

In the words of his son, Jordan Elasky. “He passed away peacefully in his sleep after my mother and I spoke with him and released him. We are blessed to have experienced this send off for him. We ask for your continued prayers and we are very grateful for all of your support. It is Sunday and the work is done for the week. So Jeff will now be resting today!” Jordan

We are deeply grateful for your love, support, friendship and prayers for Jeff and his family.
My heart aches for my friend and I will always miss his presence in my life, but I am greatly comforted by knowing that Jeff is now and forevermore in the presence of the ONE that can bring eternal LIFE out of physical death…
