Jeff "the Real Dude" Dowd medical fund

Most of you here know the Legendary Jeff Dowd. For those of you who don't or are friends of friends, Jeff Dowd is the Original Dude. He's a Film Rep, Producer, Writer, Performer, and Activist. He was one of the Founders of the Sundance Institute and Festival. He repped the Cohen Brothers first film Blood Simple. He was on The Blair Witch Team... Then the Cohen Brothers based The Big Lebowski, their biggest hit, on Jeff -- his participation in the Seattle 7 -- and the theory, religion, philosophy, lifestyle of Dudeism.
On Thursday, February 28th, the Dude went in for a hernia surgery. It took 5 hours (scheduled for 2) and ended up becoming a double hernia surgery. He was in and out same day.
However, there were some immediate complications. He picked up a “C. diff” infection from the hospital and was back there that next Monday, March 4th. Things slid downhill from there. His kidneys stopped working and he was unable to digest food. Jeff was in the ICU for about a week, without his wits, and had a close scrape at the door on St. Patrick’s Day. Thank Heaven his luck stayed around. On Wednesday, March 20th he moved to the Rehabilitation Center of Santa Monica for a one to four week stay to begin formal rehabilitation. By Sunday, March 24th he was back on his feet literally and was able to walk about 100 yards after being horizontal for over a week.
Jeff is now facing medical bills from co-pays/deductibles and ongoing costs such as nursing and outpatient rehab. He’s been unable to work day-to-day with his responsibilities as a film rep and his bills are now behind. A few of us have chipped in to cover a few short term obligations, however these needs are greater now that he is heading into long-term recovery.
We know that the Dude’s story is far from over and that this will be part of the great yarn that spins from his life, love and dreams.
