CANCER...It's a word that stops most people in their tracks. When a family member, loved one, friend is diagnosed, we pause. Fear, uncertainty, grief come along for the ride. Then, the fight begins to beat this awful disease. And that's what Jeanne thought she had done. Diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer in 2016, Jeanne completed chemo, underwent a mastectomy, and "rocked" radiation. This summer, we all celebrated with her (from near and far) as she was reassured that she was "cancer free!"
Jeanne, her husband Ken, and their family thought that maybe they could start breathing again after 3+ years of constant hits. Jeanne's parents died within 6 weeks of each other shortly before her cancer diagnosis. They lost several family members and had other health scares during that time - not to mention the financial toll associated with lost wages, medical costs, travel to/from appt, etc.
Blood work in early October showed some abnormalities that Jeanne's oncologist immediately followed up on. A CT scan was ordered and unfortunately, showed that the cancer had snuck into her liver, unknown to anyone. As you can imagine, Jeanne, Ken, their kids, and family are devastated, shell shocked. The fight begins again!
Standing on the sidelines, we all want to do something to help. Often, we don't know what that is. We say "let us know if you need anything." But if you know Jeanne and Ken, you know they are the people who help others - they don't ask for help. The previous cancer journey depleted their savings. And now, they face more months of unpaid time away from work while the bills continue to come in. More than anything, we (their friends) would like finances to be one thing that they do NOT have to worry about. This is something that we can EASILY do to remove one area of stress and allow them to focus all their energy on the battle ahead.
