The Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment (J.A.C.) is a pillar of strength in Toronto’s South Etobicoke community. Named after the Hon. Jean Augustine, the first black woman in Parliament in Canada, J.A.C. directly empowers more than 200 girls and young women annually.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many organizations, including ours. After six years of support, our major donor has had to significantly reduce funding to the organization, and this is significantly impacting our ability to program for our girls.
Our centre provides a critical space for girls and young women to learn and grow. Women remain underrepresented in fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). To this end, the Jean Augustine Centre is leading the way by building opportunities that empower girls and young women to be prepared for their future.
With your donation, the Centre can continue to offer STEM programs, social entrepreneurship, mental and physical health, life skills, academics and art programs. Our girls and young women are at risk of being set back, and we want to do everything we can to ensure they have access to the support and resources that will allow them to continue to thrive.
