The Scott Family

On Christmas Day, 2014, Ryan and Bethany Scott loaded two-month-old daughter Riley Jane into her car seat after an evening of celebration at her great-grandparents' house. As they headed home down a country highway, another driver ran a stop sign and t-boned the Scotts' SUV. It spun, and then rolled one and a half times until skidding to a halt on the asphalt. Heroically, Bethany checked on her husband and daughter, called 911, and helped Ryan apply pressure to the gash on his head as they waited for help, all while hanging from her seatbelt.

An hour later at the hospital, Riley Jane was checked head to toe, and released with no injuries. A true miracle.

Bethany was found to have a broken shoulder and severely bruised elbow. She was also discharged from the hospital that night, but is following up with her orthopedic surgeon to see if she'll need surgery to repair her shoulder.

Ryan, who swerved away from the oncoming vehicle and saved his family from any serious injuries, bore the brunt of the collision. He lost a lot of blood on scene. His skull was broken and his scalp was torn. His eye socket and nose were broken. A laceration requiring staples and stitches arched over his eyebrow. His collarbone was broken. A finger was broken. His elbow was badly broken. Once at the trauma center, he was given a unit of blood and rushed into surgery to repair his skull and elbow. The surgery was more extensive than expected, but went well and Ryan spent Christmas night in the ICU. Bethany kept watch, splitting her time between her newborn in the waiting room and her husband's bedside.

Ryan is expected to be discharged from the hospital on December 28. The Scott Family faces a long road to full healing. Ryan is the family's sole breadwinner, and loves his job as a high school football coach and teacher. This fundraising page has been set up to bless this sweet family as they recover from this horrifying ordeal. The other driver (who escaped the crash free of injury) was at fault and insurance should eventually cover the financial cost. In the meantime let's step in to lift some of their burden.
