Hi! I’m JD, he’s my husband, Luke. We don’t have a video yet, we don’t have testimonials from our friends and families yet, all we have right now is this website asking for your help.
You see, both Luke and I have wanted to be fathers for as long as we can both remember. We’ve been smart, making sure that we were on the right life trajectory before we could responsibly start the adoption process. We’ve been together twelve years and now we’re ready.
While we’ve been waiting, we’ve been busy! We both have five nieces and nephews, for a total of ten. We’ve been getting our careers started. I’m a mental health counselor, Luke’s a Pilates and yoga instructor. We’ve had long conversations about whether we want a baby or an older child. We’ve been thinking about where we want to raise our child.
Luke’s gotten training in massage therapy, yoga, and Pilates. He’s a certified personal trainer, and a professional actor, singer, and dancer. He loves getting down on the floor and rolling around with his nieces and nephews, singing with them, and sharing his love of Transformers and Power Rangers with them.
JD’s a mental health counselor with a focus on minority stress, LGBT+ families and youth, and trauma. He’s working towards becoming a registered play therapist and has been interning in the Decatur school system. He is also an actor, singer, and dancer. He loves reading to his nieces and nephews, making up stories with them, and getting them hooked on Star Wars and superheroes.
Both of us are close with our families, both of us believe in giving back to the community.
We have attended seminars in the vein of “you decided you want to adopt, now what?” and learned that to adopt an infant begins at $15,000 and will take at the bare minimum a year to complete the process. We anticipate it going less smoothly. While I’m in my internship, we are living with Luke’s family, but that will end in May. After I start working, we will move into our apartment and be ready for baby!
Any money earned in this campaign over what is needed to complete the adoption process will go towards baby supplies. The campaign has no deadline. Thank you in advance for any donations you make, it means more than you know.
