Hi, I’m Sinead or Shanida. I won’t bore you with too many details. When I was 24 after presenting with headaches, it was discovered that I had a brain tumour. Luckily Doctors could operate. I had major surgery which I went on to recover very well from. I’ve lived my life as normal for 12 years until January of this year. The tumour is back but this time it’s very different. It is not operable.
The tumour is cancerous and has spread. It is in the CS fluid that goes around the brain and down the spine. I have a few tumours from the brain to the pelvis. Just like me, my tumour had to be different! It is a rare type of tumour only discovered in 2010 therefore there is not a lot of prior knowledge or experience with it. I have had about 50 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 of the chemo called vincristine . I have my treatment on hold but the plan is 18 months of a combination of three types of chemo.
I have read that chemotherapy is controversial for my type of tumour. (See Pub Med article below) I have been doing some research and have some interesting results Alternative medicine is not covered by the government. I want to raise funds in order to get opinions from abroad and seek out alternative therapy. I estimate that I need to raise money but it's hard to know how much. I really appreciate any donations.
