Dollars For Danny, Kick the ASS Out Of ALS

Donation protected
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis  (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a
progressive disease that causes damage to the cells in the brain and
spinal cord known as motor neurons. Motor neurons transmit signals
from the brain to the muscles. When motor neurons become damaged
and eventually die, the brain can no longer control muscle reaction.
The motor neurons affected in ALS are those that initiate and control
voluntary movement. With progressive loss of voluntary muscle action,
patients with ALS may lose their ability speak, eat, move and breathe.
Presently, there is no cure.

Danny Mellaci is a 29-year-old Volunteer Firefighter and 911
Communications Operator with the Monmouth County Sheriff’s
Department in Monmouth County, New Jersey. In July 2019, Danny
and his fiancé, Meg, hiked to the top of Killington Mountain. In
November 2019, Danny was diagnosed with ALS. Instead of climbing
mountains, Danny presently walks with the aid of braces and a cane..
The costs associated with the care of someone with ALS are unlimited.
Much of the care and treatment options available are not covered by
insurance. Accommodations need to be made to living and
transportation arrangements. Although research in the field is
advancing, a person afflicted needs to maintain a certain degree of
viability in order to take advantage of treatment when it becomes
available.

All this takes money. Our goal is to raise $100,000.00 Please be as generous as your means will allow. “Dollars for Danny,
Kick the ASS out of ALS,” will accept all donations big or small. All
donations are considered a gift and the donor will not receive a
charitable deduction or service for their donation. Thank you for your support and generosity.

About this campaign:

Hi, I'm Tom Mellaci, Danny's brother.  We grew up together along with our older brother Matt and younger sister Taylor in West Long Branch, New Jersey.  Danny is still currently still living at the Jersey Shore with his fiance, Meg.  I started this campaign with the assistance of our father.  Currently I'm several miles away in Jersey City, but I still try to regularly go down to see my brother when possible.  All funds raised during this campaign are being put into a bank account set up by my father through Ocean First Bank with the help of Nancy Mazza and Sharon Franklin.  These funds will be used specifically for doctors visits and treatments (many of which are not covered by insurance) as well as potentially being used to help pay for any remodeling Danny and Meg's house will need in order to accommodate Danny's mobility.
