SEEKING HELP FOR START-UP COSTS FOR
Community Circles Restorative Justice Society
Have you ever been victimized and felt your voice wasn't heard? Have you ever been responsible for causing harm and wanted to take responsibility? Have you ever been involved in a conflict and needed to find a peaceful resolution? Restorative Justice (RJ) offers a different way to look at harm and conflict, seeing conflict as a disruption of the balance and harmony in the community. RJ believes that when people are brought together in a safe, supported setting to discuss and solve their problems with the help of the community, they are more likely to heal and be reintegrated. RJ supports offenders who want to take responsibility for their actions and make amends. It gives victims a chance to have their emotional and financial needs addressed in a way that courts cannot. And it gives communities an opportunity to take ownership of their problems.
Our program has been run by trained volunteers for over 20 years in our small town in British Columbia, Canada. We have helped to resolve hundreds of cases and there is no charge to participants for our service. We are now hoping to raise $5000 to pay for the costs of establishing ourselves as a non-profit society: the Community Circles Restorative Justice Society. As a society, we will be in a position to contract with governments, schools, and other organizations. We also will be able to apply for grants to pay for training and other costs.
We are very grateful to have this platform to seek the monies we need to cover our start up costs (insurance, registration, etc.). Thank you!
Two case studies can be found in the links below. For further information and RJ case histories go to restorativejustice.org.uk.
