JAZZSPACE DETROIT Goes to ARTPRIZE

Donation protected
Friends, please help. I have been accepted to exhibit my artwork at ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that is the most attended public art event in the world!  Since printing photos to cover a 30 x 10 foot wall is not cheap, I really need your help!

If I am one of the first ten artists to raise $1000 with at least ten donors, the money gets matched by the Michigan Lottery through ArtPrize!

Please support my project today to help me reach this goal. All donors of $100 or more will receive a signed photo of your favorite musician(s) in my collection as a thank you. Amounts from $25-$99 will receive a personal card with the "Faruq on the Roof" JazzSpace Detroit photo. Any amount large or small is appreciated as I must be one of the first 10 to reach my $1,000 goal with at least 10 supporters.

My artwork JazzSpace Detroit will appear at the Grand Rapids African American Museum — it's a collection of photos created from 1973 to 2017 that reflects Michigan's rich musical heritage and jazz, blues and Motown history.

Photos include Marcus Belgrave, Geri Allen, Roy Brooks, A. Spencer Barefield, Sippie Wallace, John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, Betty Carter, James Carter, Regina Carter, Faruq Z. Bey, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and other creators whose music elevates the human spirit. The ArtPrize exhibit will also help me raise funds as a winner of the 2016 Knight Foundation Arts Challenge.

I hope that JazzSpace Detroit at ArtPrize will increase awareness of the great Jazz, Blues, Motown and creative musicians captured in my photos and enrich the lives of those who interact with the artwork—potentially hundreds of thousands who attend ArtPrize!

It will be an interactive journey of discovery, diversity and reverberation with a tapestry of images, music and words. Gateways to music, embedded QR codes & urls will allow viewers to use cell phones to tap into the musicians' world of music; brief narratives, poems, memories and personal insights from poets, scholars, musicians and historians will be integrated and will also be accessible via a website url.
