Jayne's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Our dear friend Jayne Pearson’s world fell apart after being diagnosed with incurable stage 4 bowel cancer in February 2017 at the age of 34. Jayne is mother to two beautiful daughters, Lydia and Meredith, who at the time of her diagnosis were aged 8 years and just 17 months old.

Since her diagnosis those closest to Jayne and her family have felt helpless and so we want to share her story in the hope that there are those out there who will help our dear and beloved friend with essential funds needed to treat this awful disease.

At Jayne’s diagnosis she was already classed as stage 4 and sadly the cancer had spread to her liver and lungs. Jayne immediately started chemotherapy and endured 6 weeks of daily trips to Newcastle for intense radiotherapy.

Over the last two years Jayne has remained on a strict chemotherapy treatment plan, juggling being a wife and mother with countless scans, tests, appointments and operations.

Not once has Jayne moaned about treatment, not even when every one of her beautiful hairs fell from her head. She persisted in getting up each morning with the girls, even though at times the pain from chemo was unbearable. She has never asked for help from anyone and has continued to keep life as normal as possible for her family, even though inside she is truly terrified and the thought of not being around to watch her girls grow is excruciatingly painful.

Her treatment has helped slow the progression of the cancer, but unfortunately recent scans have shown growth in the tumours in her liver. Surgery to remove this part of her liver is the only option or her tumours will continue to grow and severely shorten her life.

Jayne has been given the devastating news that her team within the NHS are not willing to offer her the surgery she so desperately needs. Jayne has bravely taken control and has rightly refused to accept this decision. After being left no option but to seek private medical help in London, she has been given a little piece of hope - a date has been set for a surgery in the coming weeks to resect her liver and remove the tumours. The surgeon hopes this will give Jayne more precious time with her much loved family.

This operation comes at a price of £35,000. To Jayne’s family nothing is more important and they have pulled the money together so the surgery can go ahead. However, there has been considerable financial pressure forced upon the family. Jayne has been unable to work while incurring the mounting costs many cancer sufferers are sadly faced with, such as travel expenses to attend countless hospital appointments and to pay for wigs after losing all of her hair. In this situation every penny becomes precious.

I appreciate that times are hard for many of us and we are all in one way or another burdened with our own financial situation. Any help to ease the pressure on Jayne and her family during a time when they just don't need any more worries. I promise that every contribution will go towards this surgery and future treatments making such a difference to a very special lady who is loved by so many.
