While I have had a lifelong affinity for beauty and wellness, I always imagined I’d follow a traditional corporate career path. After studying Spanish and International Relations, I pursued positions in education, business, and even real estate in the 5 years post-college. Throughout this period, I found myself desperate to figure out what worked for me, and I have always come back to what makes me happiest: the beauty industry. I have worked in retail beauty stores, as well as traveling and freelancing for luxury artistry brands. I’ve built a great clientele providing makeup services for weddings, proms, and other special events. While I absolutely adored this work, I had a hard time letting go of my expectation of building my career within the corporate world. However, my attempts at working in an office and putting the beauty industry second have always ultimately left me unfulfilled. Countless friends, family, clients, and even strangers have observed me in my element and suggested that I should pursue my own gig full-time. I am proud to say that I am now on the journey of doing just that!
After all of these experiences, it is clear that the time has come for me to take control and to work for myself. It is now my mission to develop my skills to their fullest while immersing myself in what I love doing. This coming fall, I will be attending beauty school to attain certifications in Esthetics, Skincare, and Makeup. Beyond this, I am currently constructing a business plan to share my work and build a brand.
While I am in school, I will be mobile, building clientele and performing esthetic services. My focus is on personalized beauty—in helping my clients become aware of their own capabilities in their daily skin and makeup routines. I love helping them bring to life the look and skin they’ve always desired. Eventually, I plan to purchase a space in which to offer services and tutorials, as well as to provide weekly services and wellness opportunities on a not-for-profit basis. This will be at the forefront of my plans post-beauty school and it will only be the beginning!
Anticipated expenses include:
- Beauty school tuition
- Advanced courses (lash application, microblading, medical facials, i.e. chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc.)
- Out of state learning opportunists - NYC/TX/Co
- Makeup kit essentials
- Spa Essentials
- Branding (LLC, copyright, graphic design, etc.)
I know I can make my dream a reality, but I can’t do it without your support. My expense list is roughly $20,000. My goal is to get as close to that as possible (without having to finance) to bring this plan to life, and take my skills to the next level and beyond! I hope to start school by September! I would be so grateful if you would consider a contribution.
