Jay Bergmann's Medical Fund

In the last several weeks our family has struggled to wrap our minds around the sudden decline in Jays’s health.

Jay had been recovering at home since Memorial Weekend after tree trimming when a branch hit his head and caused a severe concussion.  Jay was admitted to the North Kansas City Hospital the evening of Thursday, July 20th feeling bloated and showing signs of jaundice.  

The hopsital quickly realized Jay's symptoms were liver or kidney related (separate from his concussion). The hospital was not equipped to handle his symptoms.  Jay was transferred to The University of Kansas Hospital on Monday, July 24th.

Tests were run all day Tuesday, July 25th as the hospital worked to find some answers. Wednesday, July 26th the hospital took a liver biopsy and Thursday, July 27th the results came back. Jay's liver is not working. He is in need of a new liver through a liver transplant surgery.

The doctors at KU would like to transfer Jay to the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics at Madison for a liver transplant. University of Kansas Hospital is keeping Jay stable while we wait for insurance and the go ahead to transfer Jay.

The money will be used to cover the cost of Jay's  subsequent medical costs associated with the surgery. If Jay is transferred to Madison, the family will also use the funds to pay for lodging, transportation and food while they stay close to Jay. The funds go directly to Jennifer Bergmann as the sole collector on the GoFundMe account. Jennifer can withdraw funds as needed to pay for the expenses.
