Jaxson's Long Journey

No easy way to ask for help for people you love...

Many of you know the story of Jaxson Ayers, son of Mike and Kristin Ayers. Born with a few obstacles that he has had to overcome, Jaxson never let any of that stop him. With those obstacles has come some significant surgeries and setbacks. This last one has been one of the most challenging and frankly, most heart wrenching as Jaxson was in need of an AORTIC UNCROSSING FOR CIRCUMFLEX AORTA. This is the surgery that followed a vascalar ring surgery, a surgery that did not go as planned and cost some complications in this recent one. This surgery is rather rare and specialized so it required the family to travel to Children's Hospital in Denver Virginia. Jaxson was choking and had restricted breathing and ability to eat. During this surgery, they had to put Jax on a heart and lung bypass machine. What was supposed to be 4 hours turned into nearly 8 and the one week in the hospital has ballooned to the probability of being in the hospital for 3-4 weeks and not able to fly back to Virginia until after Christmas.

So the snowball has begun and the bills for Mike and Kristin have been piling up... From not being able to work to the increases in expenses from being away from Virginia... it has just been overwhelming for them. The good news is they have medical insurance but there are some significant deductables and some parts are simply not covered.

Mike and Kristin would never ask friends and family but after my conversation with them both this week, I thought I had to ask everyone for help.... The family is staying with us in Denver, and we have meals, transportation, and the incidental expenses covered. My company is paying Mike for as long as it takes for him to get back to work when Jaxson is healthy. So we are doing everything we can to support the family. Frankly we are just not equipt to carry all of this by ourselves so we are now turning to our collective communities to help get through this.

Thank you for all the help and generousity of the many people who have helped the Ayers family to this point. I can tell you they are incredibly grateful for the many cards, encouragement and prayers from everyone.
