Jax’s Lifesaving Surgery

- We are the Obluck family and we are raising money to cover lifesaving surgery expenses for our very sweet 8-year-old black lab, Jax. Jax has had a rough go, battling lupus for the majority of his life, pancreatitis a few years ago, and just after his 8th birthday in July, he was gravely diagnosed with insulinoma. After his diagnosis, he rapidly declined, losing mobility, suffering from muscle atrophy, and constant pain. After seeing an oncologist, and running many diagnostic tests, Jax was declared an ideal candidate for surgery, but we needed to act quickly. He was scheduled a couple weeks later to come in for surgery to remove the mass on his pancreas that was producing excessive insulin. The weeks leading up to his surgery, Jax was still declining. He could not get up to go to his water or food bowls. Or hold himself up to go to the bathroom. We decided to take him into the emergency hospital that works with the specialists, and his surgery center. We said our goodbyes, as we thought he wasn’t going to make it back home. When we arrived at the ER, Jax’s blood glucose was dangerously low at a 41. They decided it would be best to keep him overnight, and have surgery the next day. This was our last opportunity to save his life and we couldn’t let this pass. Although there is a large chance for complications, and finding more tumors during surgery, we were extremely lucky and they were able to remove the tumor without issues. After removing the insulinoma, Jax’s blood glucose went back up to a normal level over 100. The surgery was a complete success! He is slowly recovering, and we are thankful for the team of ICU nurses and doctors that are caring for him, and the veterinarians and specialist that helped us save his life. Jax has many happy days ahead of him, and he is anticipated to be able to walk on his own again. We have been so very lucky, but this has been a very expensive procedure.
