Jaw Erosion Treatment

Donation protected

Many of you may be unaware that I have been suffering from migraines and what feels like a constant ear infection for 3 years now.

When I was 13, and on my 1st round of braces,  I got my premolars pulled and my upper bite brought back. Unfortunately, my jaw was not done growing, and if these teeth had not been removed, my jaw would have grown into the overbite space. With no space to grow, my jaw grew backwards and eroded through the cusp that separates the ear socket from the jaw socket. This is a very painful process, and now that there is no disk separating the two, it's only continuing to erode.

When I was first diagnosed with this condition 3 years ago, I was told that without treatment, I would be unable to use my mouth without significant pain by the age of 30. (I mean, I love drinking smoothies, but not that much!) At first this seemed crazy to me, but with the pain increasing ten-fold in just the last two years, I can't go on without a proper treatment for much longer. On my previous attempt to fix this problem, a non-specialized orthodontist tried retractive orthodontic braces for 2 years that made my lower bite smaller by shaving down teeth to fit the degraded upper. Unfortunately, this actually made the pain and the problem worse by further constricting my joint space...

This condition has really started disrupting my life and career as a student, but I have hope since I am now seeing a highly acclaimed specialist in treating jaw issues like mine in Boulder. He and his team have done numerous lab tests and screenings, including tensing machine work, and they now know where my jaw needs to be placed in order to reduce the pain and to begin the healing process of my cusps. But this will take time, special appliances, more orthodontics, and 3 invasive procedures to fix... and my insurance won't cover the specialized medical expenses that could be up to 23,000 dollars.

Any little bit you might be able to contribute helps. And for donations over $500, I'll send you one of my self-made oil paintings as a token of my gratitude.

I also understand that some of you would rather mail in a check than contribute directly to Go-Fund-Me. If this is the case, my address is:
