Jatara's Spinal Surgery Expenses

Donation protected
In 2014, just after dropping me off at work, my wife Jatara and our two children were in a car accident. It was just after rained,  and on her way to take my son to school, she hit a slick spot and ultimately hit the cement barricade after spinning the car a few times. Following the accident she went to the doctor to be seen for what we thought was just soreness. It turned out to be much more serious.

Three years, various doctors, prescriptions, physical therapy and cortisone shots, and many other failed attempts later, there was still no relief. Finally in June, she was finally properly examined and diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy, a condition where the spinal cord is compressed between vertebrae by an intervertebral disk. Although common it typically doesn't occur in adults until age 50+, causing numbness, tingling and weakness in the hands and feet, and anywhere else below the neck.

As devastating as that news was, were told that if something was not done, in as soon as six months Jatara could very well end up paralyzed unless she agreed to have surgery. Though not very invasive, the surgery recovery time requires immediate bed rest for up to ten weeks, with full recovery taking from six months to a year.

My wife is the rock of our household, hands down the strongest woman I know. She has been there for me for eleven years caring for me and taking care of me, as I am a kidney patient currently on dialysis, and an amazing mother to our two beautiful children. Despite our situation life does continue on and our responsibilities will remain. We turned to GoFundMe as a last resort to solicit help because as of now, after her surgery it will just be my children and I at home to care for her for ten weeks. Which means that I will have to take time off of work, making things difficult as I am the primary and only source of income because of her injury. Outside of monetary assistance, having someone at home during my treatments and when I will be at work would be helpful, but it is a lot to ask of from family and friends.

Jatara's surgery date has been set for August 18, 2017, just ten days before our daughter's first day of school. So you can imagine the immediate needs we have and their imperativeness. The funds we seek are for our bills and/or aftercare, in the event I have to take time off or we happen to find and hire a caregiver for the times I will be at work and treatment.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and no amount too small. I just want to ensure that my wife has the smoothest road to recovery, free of worry and stress but more importantly the presence of her family as she begins the healing process. If you're reading this...thank you. You've already done more than most. Peace and blessings.
