Jasper Legion Veteran Housing/Energy Project

The Jasper Royal Canadian Legion is a non-profit operating out of the town of Jasper, in the Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. We are seeking to construct two apartments within its current building to provide housing for Veterans within our community, secondary to this but with the build , upgrading our 70's era furnaces, hood fan, and repair our roof to improve our energy consumption, save money and become self sustaining with the rent that will be provided from the apartments.
The Legions overall mission is to Serve Veterans, their families, and our community. By completing the above we can continue and expand our service.
Plans are done, Parks Canada approval granted, Architect work done, volunteer builders available. All quotes for the furnaces, and construction has been received. Permits are all in.
Funds will be used to Build two apartments, demolition current classroom, move Roof top air/heating unit, construction work to install rooftop unit, install updated kitchen hood (donated), install air exchange unit (donated), purchase kitchen cupboards, appliances, windows, doors for the new units, purchase and install the new apartment heating and cooling units, move current hot water unit, and upgrade. Funds will also be used to pay wages for construction workers not volunteering time, materials and equipment, and accounts owing at time of construction start.
The apartments are meant for the use of Veterans within the community at an affordable rate. In the event no Veterans are available they will be offered to the local Police, Wardens, Firefighters, EMS for housing.
The rent received, along with the substantial energy savings will be used to make the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion self sustaining for decades. Allowing the Legion and its membership to update our Cenotaph, serve Veterans and continue with our community work in the future.
The Jasper Legion currently runs a Charity (Veterans Adventures Jasper) which can be found at www.jasperlegion.ca or on Facebook. We also support Remembrance Activities, Remembrance Day, Seniors, Scholarships, and many other worth while causes.
Currently we have three Veterans on the waiting list on the possibility that this will be built. Two are either homeless or pending homeless, another is wanting to work in Jasper but is living in another town as they cannot find affordable housing. Simple small apartments, located in a friendly town with great services and a solid support network for those Veterans is our hope!
