Jason's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jason Boyland. Firstly thanks for reading this and considering to help me with my medical costs and debts following a fall in February 2016. It’s now May 2016 and I haven’t returned to work since my fall in February. I’m a 42 year old single dad to two wonderful kids. Unfortunately I usually only see them at school holidays as they live interstate mainly with their mum. We have a great relationship still and talk a lot by phone and computer at least. I do work full time in the construction industry as a Roadworks Inspector, fortunately I have a basic Income Protection with my work Superannuation. This however just covers my basics of rent, utilities, living costs, let alone my building medical costs to hopefully get me back to sound health and able to return to my work and continue with life in general. I’ve had lots of ups and downs in the past including pervious surgeries one being a disc replacement in my neck. So I’ve fought this fight before, however this time I don’t have the funds or money to proceed with the treatments I need let alone those that could help improve my condition, reducing pain levels and increasing mobility, strength and quality of life.

In February of this year, 2016, I had a fall from the back of a trailer when I was moving. At this point a big thanks to everyone who helped me finish moving as I wasn’t even half way done when this happened. The rest of my moving, cleaning and sorting was done by amazing friends and family while I was in hospital and trying to recover. This fall resulted in me dislocating my right hip as the major injury plus other problems with my hip and lower back. I had surgery in February to relocate my leg from the dislocation and to repair the torn ligaments and cartilage inside the hip. Things settled out following the surgery however plateaued off after a few weeks. Leaving me with constant pain through my hip, back, down my leg and all over at times. We followed up with regular reviews by the doctors however my pain levels were too high and unpredictable and body improvement well was more plateaus and troughs rather than improvements. Following up with my Orthopedic Surgeon we then increased my treatment levels while I needed to back off activity. Following several steroid injections to my hip it was not responding well to treatment.

This had not left in the best condition however in the start of May my condition got more complicated, in several ways. First I discovered a hernia on my left had side in my groin. The swelling of my hip had settled enough for me to notice the differences and the different pain and discomfort associated. This likely could have occurred with the fall or at some point in my trying to move and get set at my current rental house. The pain I was in, pain medication and swelling all masking the hernia until it got to the point it was significantly noticeable. I was also in a car accident where I was hit from behind on the highway. Fortunately we both were able to drive away but sustained vehicle damage and my body took a big hit and strain. So I have my ute needing to go to the panel shop too.

Following all this I’ve had more reviews with my doctors and seen some other doctors for the addition complications. I do have private health cover but there are still big out of pocket costs, medications, rehabilitation costs, travel costs, ongoing cost of living while everything just keeps mounting up. I currently can’t afford the procedures that I need and doctors believe will assist me greatly.

The procedures recommended for me that I need are outlined below:

·        Hernia surgery to rectify the hernia in my groin.

·        Medical procedure on my lower back that is likely to relieve the pain and neural pain in my back and down my leg. This procedure is diagnostic as well as therapeutic. Following its results it is likely addition procedures would be identified to help or that may be required.

·        Depending on how my current whiplash following the car accident settles a similar procedure to the one above on my lower back could be performed on my neck around the area I have the disc replacement. This would be to try settle all the muscle cramps and neural pain I’m experiencing again in my neck, shoulders and left arm following the accident at the start of May.

·        I have a review in July with my Orthopedic Surgeon. At this review if I still have the significant symptoms, which have been ongoing since February, it is likely I’ll be needing hip replacement surgery. I think this is more likely than not unfortunately.

So that’s basically the bulk of my medical condition I’m facing, at the moment, between now, May 2016 and August 2016. The major problem is I can’t afford these procedures on my current income without working. I can’t work due to my conditions. If I was to go to the public health system it would take years and place the burden on public health that I’m trying to sort from the private medical system. I’m trying to get my body fixed so I can get back to work, life and normal activities again. Trying to get back to a productive member of society rather than a burden on the system.

Any of your help and assistance will be greatly appreciated and go directly into my medical costs, bills and rehabilitation costs once I can get all the procedures done.

I thank you for taking the time to read my story and if you decide you can assist me my appreciation goes beyond any words I can muster.

Thank you everyone and take care.

Jason Boyland.
