Jason Young's Healing Fund

In Marvel movies heroes wear costumes & capes. In real life, heroes are everyday people who fight battles so daunting most of us can’t even begin to imagine them.

If you have the pleasure of knowing Jason Young, you know a hero & a warrior.

Jason has been fighting kidney disease for the better part of 13 years now. Currently Jason is on dialysis 3 days a week. This man is one of the most positive, brave, inspirational & good hearted people I know. He is also absolutely, unquestionably one of the strongest people I’ve ever come across. Here is a man that realizes how precious each day really is.

On top of all these great qualities this man is also an amazing father to his adorable son Felix.

I’ve sat with Jason at dialysis & watched his blood be pumped out of his body, filtered through a machine & pumped back in. And you know what? He sits there with a smile on his face.

Earlier this year Jason underwent his second kidney transplant & I know many of us were hopeful that he would be given a chance at a life free of dialysis. Unfortunately this has not been the case; after months of not feeling well on November 12th Jason had to undergo surgery to have the transplanted kidney removed due to an infection. He is currently in the hospital in Hamilton & will most likely remain there for some time still.

In the years I’ve known Jason I’ve only recently seen his spirit falter. I know many of us feel helpless & it can be difficult to watch someone you care about have to fight such a battle.

Jason recently told me he was “done being strong.”  My reply to him “then this is when you need to let people help.”

Unfortunately none of us can take a day in the dialysis chair, or distribute the 35 staples in his torso amongst each other, or take an ounce of the pain for him. I know myself and many others would volunteer to lighten the load if we could.

I would love to see Jason be able to return home & focus on his recovery without the added worry of financial stress. Let’s give this warrior a chance to heal both physically & emotionally & rebuild the strength needed to continue his fight.

If Marvel movies have taught me one thing, it’s that even heroes need help.
