Jason Umtuch of Fires Igniting the Spirit – HOUSING FUND – this would be a private, non-partisan, no overhead fund that would go towards housing for the Umtuch Family.
This GoFundMe is created to help a dear friend and organizer Jason Umtuch (aka Biggie) to raise funds for a down payment for a house for the Umtuch Family. Housing stability will bring so much possibility, calm, and security to the Umtuch family.

During this unprecedented time, with the direct impact of COVID and the recent fires devastatingly impacting many Native people, Jason has brought and continues to bring, much-needed resources and supplies to rural tribes of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, and South Dakota.
Currently, the Umtuch family lives in a cramped, not ideal apartment, and unsafe neighborhood. Once the Umtuch Family can establish a stable housing situation Jason can fully dedicate himself to expanding his activist work and community support.
Jason’s dream home situation would be a 4-6 bedroom home in NE Portland (where he grew up!) for his growing family. His family currently consists of his 3 kids, his partner Selina and her 3 kids who all live in one apartment.
Jason is able to afford $2000/month. To purchase a home in NE Portland, the going rate is $450,000. This would mean a down payment of $90k is needed. My ask is to help Jason Umtuch with $90k for a down payment.
I have personally been on trips with Jason assisting in supply runs and many people can attest to his tremendous commitment and care for the Native community.
Supply runs are not to be taken lightly. Native community members are continually struck by COVID and the effects of the recent severe fires. For example, during one of our supply runs, Jason received a call to learn that one of the many elders who caught COVID-19 had passed on. Over the phone, he did immediate triage of the situation, coordinating with the family, getting the measurements of his trailer for the elder's body, and lining up supplies. After resolving all the logistics, he drove an hour and a half to meet the family and support the move.
In weekly regional and daily inner-city Portland supply runs, Jason has responded to the ongoing crisis. Rates of COVID-19 infections are disproportionately high and resources lag behind. Immediate crisis response is always needed.
In addition to helping his people, he helps our Portland community at large, embracing Indigenous Sovereignty with Black Liberation and Black Unity. He continually assists by sharing Fires Igniting the Spirit support with those in need. He has directly helped Black and Indigenous activists with housing support and provides aid to unsheltered members. He anonymously helps people as Fires Igniting the Spirit by paying for food, travel, shelter, and with immediate needs from sourcing PPE supplies to getting cars repaired.
Jason’s long term dream is to help previously incarcerated folks, including his people who have gone through the failed system. One of these community members recently overdosed, highlighting the need for effective and immediate care. He is working to eventually establish a program to help those who fall through the cracks.
Jason works internationally with and thru Wellbriety, "a sustainable grassroots movement that provides culturally based healing for the next seven generations of Indigenous people. Disseminate culturally based principles, values, and teachings to support healthy community development and servant leadership, and to support healing from alcohol, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and intergenerational trauma."
