Jason needs a new kidney

Meet Jason. He is 7 years old and enjoys playing games with his family and friends. Sadly Jason contracted Malaria in late 2017 and as a result his kidneys were badly damaged and have never recovered. He currently needs dialysis twice a week but this isn’t a long term solution for Jason. He needs a kidney transplant.

For us living in Australia that is a very daunting prospect for a family to have to come to terms with, but Jason and his family are in an impossible situation. Jason lives in Uganda where the public health care system is unable to pay for his treatment. In fact they are unable to have the transplant performed in the country and they need to travel to India for the surgery to be performed. Thankfully several members of Jason’s family have  offered to be kidney donors but they need help to come up with the funds to provide Jason with this life saving surgery.

The surgery itself is more than $20,000 and they have mounting costs associated with his ongoing dialysis. 

I met Jason’s uncle Duku while we were both working in Afghanistan for the same international aid organisation. The photo above is Jason and Duku together on Duku’s last holiday home to visit his family in January. Duku has been working for Doctors Without Borders for more than 15 years providing medical assistance to people in need in many countries all over the world.  He has shown years of dedication to helping others and now he and his family need some support. Any money raised will be sent by me to David’s uncle Duku so the family are able to use the money to pay for David’s medical expenses.

Please help me to help this family and allow Jason to live a long and healthy life as any family would want for their 7 year old boy.
