Jason Moves Foward

Greetings to all,

Our amazing friend Jason Wooding, who was born with a rare genetic disease - Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Type-3) (SMA) , was recently blessed with some wonderful, hopeful news!

Jason’s wheelchair is more than two years past its lifespan, and after months of denials and appeals, a replacement was finally approved. The new chair and seat elevation system will enable him to move more independently and reach things that were once impossible to grab…like yummy snacks in the cabinets, which he hasn't done in a decade!

Jason was also blessed with approval for Spinraza , a breakthrough treatment for SMA which recently passed FDA screening. This incredible medical treatment has shown to achieve extraordinary milestones in trial studies on children, with some patients now able to sit unassisted, stand, and even walk. These fortunate children are maintaining these milestones and living much improved lives.

Jason will be one of the first adults in Oregon to receive this, hopefully, life-changing treatment, and he is extremely grateful to have the first year’s cost of $750,000 covered by Biogen. He will, however, incur costs associated with clinical treatments, medical expenses with the first four doses and maintenance doses every four months - optimistically for years to come. The doses will be administered via spinal tap-like injections, and the physician will be using a CT scan for absolute needle precision. Ongoing post-injection physical therapy appointments will also be an additional cost. Although findings are based on clinical studies with children, Jason and his neurologist are very hopeful that he will be able to move around more freely, say goodbye to painful back spasms, and regain some of his physical abilities. We would love to see him play his beloved drums again!

Finally, Jason relies entirely on public transportation to commute to work, attend concerts, and cheer on the Timbers. We would love for him to have the option of driving his very own fancy wheelchair van - which would obviously be a game changer! Our ultimate dream would be an incredibly successful campaign to first fully cover his medical-related costs and then be able to assist on a massive down payment on a van Jason can drive himself.

So, friends and family, please know we are truly grateful for a gift, at any level, and 100% of your donations will go directly to Jason’s needs. As more information about cost comes in, we will send you updates.

Co-pay for wheelchair: $5878.00

Additional costs include: Clinical payments for future Spinraza administration procedures, Co-pay for physical therapy as well as additional unforeseen costs, large down payment on a wheelchair accessible van.

If you are not able to donate through this GoFundMe page, to help our buddy Jason “Move Forward”, you can also PayPal him directly - send us a note at [email redacted] and we will get you connected with his PayPal account.

Thank you all so much, and if you are unable to give, please send some good wishes Jason’s way!

With heartfelt gratitude,
