Hi everyone,
My name is Jashante Boyd. I'm 33 year's old, a single mother with a eight year old son. I've been battling with type 1 diabetes since the age of ten. As I got older my condition got worst. It started with me gaining water on my body which cause me to almost lose my life. I lost my daughter on September 15, 2014 and on May 14, 2015 I lost my mom. This put me in a very dark place and I wanted to give up. I was then diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure Stage 4 so I had to do dialysis. I was really scared but I knew I had to fight for my life and to be there for my son. It has now been six years since I been on dialysis, 3 times a week to stay alive.
I got placed ACTIVE on UK Kentucky transplant list on January 21, 2021. I receive a call February 21 , 2021 that I have a kidney match. This was the most exciting news ever! I contacted my big sister who lives in New York and told her the news. She's my emergency contact and the one I trust with my son. My father and I drove down to Lexington that night.
The next morning my nurse came into my room and told me my surgery will be 11:30 am. As they begin to prepare me for surgery I get a call from my coordinator that I couldn't get the kidney due to my insurance being inactive. I couldn't believe that I was going home without a kidney. I was so heart broken, I cried and wanted to give up again. After being sadden by this experience I begin to move forward.
I am now ACTIVE on University Of Cincinnati Kidney list, by the grace of God, as of April 14, 2021.
I'm doing a GoFundMe because of the critical expenses I will face immediately after surgery. These expenses include the cost of accommodation near the transplant center, travel, cost of post-op care, and my antirejection medications. This will truly ease the financial burden of a transplant and allow me to focus on recovery and a healthy life.
I don't want to experience what I went through with UK Kentucky again. I would be extremely grateful for any and all support during this time by donating or spreading the word between your friends and family. Every bit counts and I'm sure together we can reach this goal. All funds will not be touch until I receive my transplant.
