Hello everyone,
I am Jaron Woodsley and I hail from the beautiful twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Currently, I am a student at Northern Illinois University pursuing a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Steelpan Performance, and a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Instrumental Education.
Usually, when we are on break, I go back to Trinidad. Whenever I go home, I host a concert in an effort to raise funds for tuition and other school fees. Since we were hit with the COVID-19 pandemic this year, it was and still is impossible for me to go home in order to host a concert due to travel restrictions and health guidelines which limit event capacities. Doing this would have definitely resulted in a loss - even if I went home without hosting a concert.
In lieu of a concert this year, I have delved into a project that is a first of its kind for me. I am currently recording a double Christmas album. One CD will feature music usually heard in Trinidad and Tobago around the Christmas season, while the other will feature internationally known popular Christmas songs and carols. So far, this project has been fully funded by my family. Due to the pandemic and work restrictions placed on international students (we cannot work off-campus jobs unless it is directly related to our majors), it has been impossible for me to find a job on campus. We just need to finish paying people who have been working on the project. Funds will be going toward the album artist, audio engineer and drummer. If there is a surplus of funding, it will go directly toward tuition and other school fees.
