Jarod's Journey

Donation protected
On July 1st Jarod Keller was injured in a swimming pool accident resulting in broken vertebrae  at C5 and C6  and a bruised spinal cord.  He was unable to move his legs, had limited mobility and sensation in his arms and no ability to use his hands and fingers.

Jarod had surgery on July 2nd  at The University of Kansas Medical Center to remove the C6, replace it with a cadaver bone and fuse the broken vertebrae to a healthy surrounding bone.  Following the surgery Jarod gained some motor function in his arms. Miraculously, they were able to do much more even gaining him improvement in the sensory function in the rest of his body.  Jarod still has no motor function below the chest, but with continued support and rehab Jarod, his family and friends believe anything is possible.

Jarod has been blessed to be accepted into the Craig Hospital (craighospital.org) in the Denver, Colorado area. Here he will start his first major rehabilitation for 75 days. This was Jarod's first choice for his journey! Unfortunately, insurance will only cover 60 days of inpatient care. This means there will be financial implications for Jarod and his family.  Each day will be approximately $3,000 for a minimum of $45,000; however, Jarod will be able to continue his rehab through inpatient and outpatient treatments as long as he is continuing to improve and the funds are available. There are also unknown costs for medical equipment, family houseing, home modifications, etc. that will be necessary.

His amazing parents, Mike and Linda, and sister Lauren have been by his side continuously. They too, have shown their strength and incredible faith as they help now in his recovery and rehabilitation.

Jarod is in high spirits with his sense of humor still in tact.  He is very determined to fight back from these injuries. Prior to his accident, Jarod was very active, always seeking adventure and is a student at Northwest Missouri State University studying Agriculture Business. He continues to refer to this as his journey, I think maybe because of the adventurous side in him. I am sure it is that tenacious, inquisitive, and compassionate attitude that will continue to drive him as he moves through rehabilitation.

The Keller family has been witnessing firsthand, the incredible power and graciousness of the human spirit. They thank each of you for your support and prayers.
