Jardin de Gracia Expansion

In 2002, Jardin de Gracia opened in El Socorro Honduras with first and second grade. In 2007 we had our first graduating 6th grade class.  Until 2012, 6th grade was considered a stopping point for many peoples' basic education in Honduras. In 2012, it was changed to 9th grade, and since then, our graduates have received a certificate of completion for the last few years. They use that certificate to enroll in another school. This means that the children that have been at Jardin de Gracia, receiving a loving, Christian education, are now enrolled in the public school system if they even enroll. 

We've realized that we are missing out on influencing the children in our village during the most influential years of their lives. The ages of 12-16 are when many young people really decide who they are going to be in life. In El Socorro, the pull to join a gang or to be a young mother is strong. The parents in our village have begged for years to expand our school into the necessary grades so that their children can receive that diploma from Jardin de Gracia. 

Now, in 2018 we have started to break ground on this huge project! We are building in phases, with the first phase being the septic system and 2 classrooms and an office. This first phase will cost around $80,000. For the entire project - 6 classrooms, a kitchen/cafeteria, and office - we need $250,000. If we can get the first phase finished, we'll be able to let the current class of sixth graders continue with 7th grade at the south campus. We hope to add a grade every year until 9th and have room to hold science labs, music and art classes. We will also have space for a dental office on the upstairs level. A high school diploma is an important thing. The school expansion will change lives in our village.  Please consider helping us realize this much-needed dream!
