Hi, my name is Jarandy-these days people call me Jay. As much as I don't want to have to, I never thought I'd be writing this, but life threw me an unexpected curveball, and I'm reaching out for help, support, positive energy; Because this is one of "those" challenging times.

** What Happened**

The restaurant where I've been working recently lost their 10yr contract after being outbid by a competitor. This led to sudden layoffs, everybodys gone—including me. So it wasn't performance-related, just bad timing and circumstances beyond anyone's control.

** Where I Stand Now**

Respectfully, I'm tucking my tail and taking this on. I've never been in a cluster situation like this before, and being embarrassed doesn't get me what I need. Greatfull I live in great situation for my lifestyle and the rent is comfortably $899, which I could handle. However, I fell behind after losing my job, and here's where things got overwhelming: As per the lease agreement The management company charges "$20 a day" in late fees. That's $20 a day, seven days a week—whether it's a weekend, holiday, or regular day. Do the math: that's $600 a month in fees alone. And I knew this thinking ...that particular clause wouldn't pertain to me. I was wrong and those fees accumulate up quickly.

These fees have compounded, and what started as $899 in rent has now ballooned to $1,600 that I owe. Even with unemployment assistance, the benefits don't cover both my living expenses and this growing debt.

**What I'm Doing**

I've actively been job searching every single day—applying and interviewing because I know that's the path forward. I'm also planning to negotiate with management once I can get current, but first I need to stop the bleeding; this cycle of accumulating "$20 a day" before it gets any worse.

**Why This Matters**

Although this is a temporary hardship, time is still moving forward (faster and faster if you ask me) and the consequences of eviction would be long-lasting; making it even harder to get into other situations in the future.
