Hi! Jann here. I’m the nice lady at the counter at SODO Deli . I’ve been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer and will have to be out for surgery. They caught it early, I don’t believe my life is in danger, but my livelihood is. Here’s the story.
SODO Deli. Most of you know it is all about Tim & I and the family we’ve built with our neighbors and customers in SODO. Times have been slow, and we’re down to just one employee right now and no extra money and just replaced a $5000 refrigerator. That doesn’t give us much cushion for events like this. I’m normally at the deli from 10am-10pm, usually running the register, making sure sandwiches get to the right customer, and managing online orders. We’ve got a few people trained to help out, but they can’t afford to work for free. We would LOVE to be able to pay them so that you will have competent help when you order a sandwich!
I’ll have to take 5-6 weeks off for initial surgery, another 8 weeks off for reconstruction. I’m usually at the Deli for 12 hours a day, so that leaves a really big hole. If we can pay our help for 10 hours a day it would be a GREAT relief for Tim.
The math on this is painful. Estimating hours and wages for one person came to $18,720. OMG, that’s a scary number! So I’m asking for help. We need $20,000. Processing fees on this platform could be over $700 so I’m setting a target for $21,000. If you can contribute any amount – small or large -- you will be critical to keeping SODO Deli open!
My surgery will be happening before the end of May, so if you plan to help, please don’t hesitate!
