<div>Soy originario del sur de la Ciudad de México, específicamente del pueblo de Tlaltenco, en la alcaldía Tláhuac. Nací y crecí en una familia humilde, pero trabajadora, que me enseñó desde pequeño el valor del esfuerzo, el estudio y el respeto a los demás. Gracias a ese apoyo familiar y a mis ganas de salir adelante, logré estudiar la licenciatura en Biología y cumplir uno de mis mayores sueños: trabajar en el Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, uno de los hospitales más reconocidos de toda Latinoamérica.

<div>Pero en medio de ese camino de logros personales y profesionales, mi vida cambió por completo.
</div>

<div>Hace poco más de cuatro años fui diagnosticado con un tipo de cáncer llamado sarcoma sinovial, una enfermedad agresiva y rara que afecta los tejidos blandos del cuerpo. En mi caso, se presentó por primera vez en el muslo izquierdo. Fue un golpe muy fuerte, pero lo enfrenté con esperanza y determinación. Me sometí a tratamiento y cirugía, y en ese momento sentí que todo había quedado atrás. Sin embargo, la vida me tenía preparado un camino mucho más complejo.

<div>Años atrás sufrí una profunda injusticia: fui encarcelado por un delito que no cometí. Pasé cinco meses en prisión, donde viví experiencias muy duras: maltrato físico, violencia psicológica, exclusión. Al no tener vínculos con el mundo del crimen, me convertí en un blanco fácil de abuso. El estrés y el dolor que viví en ese encierro fueron extremos.

<div>Un mes después de recuperar mi libertad, mi salud se quebró. Fue entonces cuando, por primera vez, me diagnosticaron cáncer. El tumor apareció en mi muslo izquierdo, y en ese momento no imaginaba todo lo que vendría después. Comenzó así un camino largo y doloroso, lleno de tratamientos, cirugías y altibajos.

<div>Durante un tiempo logré contener la enfermedad, pero hace aproximadamente un año el cáncer regresó, más agresivo. Volvió a instalarse en el mismo lugar donde había aparecido originalmente. Esta vez, la única opción fue tomar una de las decisiones más difíciles de mi vida: la amputación de mi pierna izquierda.

<div>Perder una extremidad no solo cambia tu cuerpo, cambia todo lo que eres: tu forma de vivir, de moverte, de relacionarse, de trabajar, incluso de soñar. Pero a pesar del miedo y la tristeza, he seguido adelante. No ha sido fácil. El cáncer es solo una parte del problema. La otra parte es lo que no se ve: la discriminación, la falta de oportunidades, el abandono institucional.

<div>A raíz de mi enfermedad y de la discapacidad adquirida, el hospital en el que trabajaba dejó de contar conmigo. Desde entonces, no he podido encontrar empleo. Las entrevistas terminan cuando explico mi condición. A pesar de tener estudios, experiencia y muchas ganas de aportar, las puertas se me cierran constantemente.

<div>Vivir con una enfermedad crónica, sin ingresos estables, con tratamientos frecuentes, terapias, hospitalizaciones y deudas acumuladas, ha sido una carga enorme. Aun así, me niego a rendirme.
</div>
<div>Mi próximo objetivo es continuar mis estudios de posgrado. Mi sueño es ingresar a una maestría en agosto de 2025. Por mi situación física, elegí una línea de investigación que puedo desarrollar desde casa: análisis de datos y trabajo de escritorio, sin necesidad de desplazarse constantemente. La educación, para mí, no solo es un proyecto académico, es una forma de seguir vivo, de mantener mi identidad, mis metas y mi dignidad.

<div>Y aunque este camino ha sido muy solitario en algunos momentos, no lo he recorrido completamente solo.
</div>
<div>Quiero hablarte de <strong>Jan</strong>, una amiga muy cercana que ha estado conmigo en cada etapa de esta lucha. No solo ha sido un apoyo emocional inmenso, también ha estado a mi lado en momentos en los que todo parecía derrumbarse. Hace unos meses, la vida también le puso una prueba difícil: fue diagnosticada con cáncer. Su proceso ha sido profundamente desafiante y, además del impacto emocional y físico, ha enfrentado una carga económica muy fuerte.

<div>El sistema de salud en el que está inscrita, por trabajar en una empresa privada, le exige pagos altísimos por cada consulta, análisis o sesión de terapia. Irónicamente, quienes más aportan económicamente al sistema muchas veces reciben menos apoyo cuando realmente lo necesitan. Esa realidad ha afectado severamente sus finanzas y también las de su familia, que ha hecho todo lo posible por sostenerla durante este proceso.

<div>El estrés financiero se ha convertido en una nueva enfermedad para los dos. Nos duele aceptar que no podemos solos, pero también creemos profundamente en la empatía, en la solidaridad y en la posibilidad de tender la mano cuando todo parece oscurecerse.

<div>Es por eso que hoy, con toda la humildad, les pedimos su ayuda.

<div>I’m originally from the south of Mexico City, from the town of Tlaltenco in the borough of Tláhuac. I was born and raised in a humble but hard-working family that taught me the value of effort, education, and respect from an early age. Thanks to their support and my own determination to move forward, I earned a degree in Biology and fulfilled one of my biggest dreams: working at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, one of the most prestigious hospitals in Latin America.

<div>But in the midst of these personal and professional achievements, my life changed completely.
</div>

<div>Just over four years ago, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of cancer called synovial sarcoma, which affects the body’s soft tissues. In my case, it first appeared in my left thigh. It was a heavy blow, but I faced it with hope and determination. I underwent treatment and surgery, and for a while, I believed it was all behind me. However, life had a much more difficult path in store for me.

<div>Years earlier, I suffered a deep injustice: I was imprisoned for a crime I did not commit. I spent five months in jail, enduring physical abuse, psychological violence, and social isolation. With no ties to the criminal world, I became an easy target for mistreatment. The emotional and physical stress I experienced during that time was extreme.

<div>Just one month after regaining my freedom, my health collapsed. That was when I was diagnosed with cancer for the first time. The tumor appeared in my left thigh, and I had no idea what lay ahead. That marked the beginning of a long and painful journey filled with treatments, surgeries, and constant ups and downs.
</div>

</div>
<div>For a while, I was able to keep the disease under control, but about a year ago, the cancer came back—stronger and more aggressive. It reappeared in the same place as before. This time, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life: to amputate my left leg.
</div>

</div>
<div>Losing a limb doesn’t just change your body—it changes everything: how you live, how you move, how you connect with others, how you work, and even how you dream. Despite the fear and sadness, I’ve kept going. It hasn’t been easy. Cancer is only one part of the struggle. The other part is what you don’t see: discrimination, lack of opportunities, and institutional abandonment.

<div>Due to my illness and newly acquired disability, the hospital I worked for no longer counted on me. Since then, I haven’t been able to find work. Interviews often end as soon as I explain my condition. Despite my education, experience, and strong desire to contribute, doors continue to close.
</div>

<div>Living with a chronic illness, without stable income, with ongoing treatments, therapies, hospitalizations, and mounting debt has been overwhelming. Still, I refuse to give up.
</div>

<div>My next goal is to continue my education. I’m hoping to start a Master's program in August 2025. Because of my physical limitations, I chose a research path I can pursue from home—data analysis and desktop work, with no need for frequent travel. For me, education isn’t just an academic project. It’s a lifeline. It helps me stay alive, preserve my identity, pursue my goals, and maintain my dignity.

<div>And although this journey has been lonely at times, I haven’t walked it entirely alone.
</div>

</div>
<div>I want to tell you about Jan, a very close friend who has been by my side through every stage of this battle. She’s offered me immense emotional support and has stood with me when everything felt like it was falling apart. A few months ago, life also dealt her a painful blow: she was diagnosed with cancer. Her journey has been deeply challenging, and on top of the emotional and physical toll, she has faced overwhelming financial pressure.

<div>Because she works for a private company, her health coverage requires her to pay enormous fees for every consultation, exam, or therapy session. Ironically, those who contribute the most financially to the system often receive the least help when they need it the most. This reality has severely impacted her finances—and those of her family, who’ve done everything they can to support her.

<div>For both of us, financial stress has become a second illness. It’s painful to admit that we can’t do it alone—but we deeply believe in empathy, solidarity, and the power of helping one another when everything seems to fall apart.
