A Future for Janet's Kids

Janet Milos left us this morning.
Remembering Janet, I think of the word FIERCE. She could be opinionated and relentless about doing the "right thing", whatever it was. Underneath that fierceness, was a heart bigger than anyone I know.
She fought this disease every step of the way, through multiple surgeries, setback after setback. Everyone that knew her marveled at her strength and resolution.
Work, whether around the house or at LongFellow's Deli, was attacked with a full frontal assault. A wonderful cook, she would dominate the kitchen...and anyone venturing near it...with crisp instruction and and impatience. Things were meant to be done quickly and correctly, as she saw it.
Her children knew both the high standards she expected of them and that they always came first. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them. When necessary, she could be that Momma bear defending her cubs. In so many ways, the decisions she made over the last years of her life all revolved somehow around her boys, Aaron, age 14 and Aidan, age 11.
As she approached her last days, her thoughts were always about securing the future of her children. She wanted her brothers and sisters to stay in their lives so they'd be enriched by their presence. Janet didn't have many possessions, but what she did have are to be sold and the money put aside for the boys' education.
It is fitting that we remember Janet, her zesty crispy-pastrami sandwiches, her love of life, and most of all, the two loves of her life.
All contributions and memorials will go toward an educational fund for Aaron & Aidan.
