Jane's Brain Tumour Battle

Jane’s Story

Jane Gebbie has been with Suncorp for 8 years now.  She started out in the Victorian Regional team and moved to Claim Services 2 years ago.

She lives at home with her son and soon to be daughter in law who are saving for their wedding next year. Their engagement party is on 29th December – the last day that Jane is having radiotherapy!

 The Issue:

Jane was having issues with her eyes and went to see an ophthalmologist who advised her that he thought she had some issues with her eyes that needed more exploration.

As mentioned above, it turns out that Jane has a brain tumour. At this stage, her oncologist is 90% sure she has a meningioma tumour which is likely to be benign.

However, there is a slight chance that her brain tumour could be a Lymphoma which would be malignant and the worse case scenario.

Jane will be having radiotherapy every day from 7th December to 29th December at the end of which there will be more tests to see what impact that treatment has on the tumour.

How Your Support Can Help:

Jane’s radiotherapy is expensive. Even with Medicare and private health insurance rebates, she will be in excess of $3500 out of pocket at the end of the treatment. This is a lot of money for someone in Jane’s position. Jane also lives in Beaconsfield which is a two hour round trip on two trains from where her treatment is taking place in Richmond at the Epworth Hospital.

Jane would like to be able to book overnight accommodation near the hospital as she’s been advised she will be very tired after her treatment – especially as it goes on. As you can imagine, this will not be cheap. Any funds we raise will go towards accommodation and her treatment costs.

 Why Your Support Matters:

Your support means the world to Jane. To be able to have the treatment and not worry about the costs associated would relieve so much pressure for her.

The ability to stay close to the hospital and not have to catch two trains and walk 15 mins to her treatment and back again each day for the period could potentially have a positive impact on the outcome of her treatment itself.

Her ability to rest between treatments rather than spending hours travelling to and from is pretty priceless.
