In mid-June, Janelle discovered that she has a very rare and advanced form of liver cancer. Her chondrosarcoma tumor has already consumed approximately 75% of her liver. She spent weeks in a hospital in Fresno who had never seen her type of cancer before and were trying to consult with UCSF. It didn't seem that the left hand really knew what the right hand was doing and they didn't have a solid medical care plan for Janelle. It was clear that she needed more specialized care.
Janelle's husband, Dan, reached out to Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City, Ut. After weeks of correspondence, the battles with insurance, and nearly a 100 pages of medical records, Janelle was finally on her way to meet with their teams in late July. The game plan they presented was to do 25 radiation treatments in hopes to shrink the tumor and create cleaner margins. This would then open up possibilities for their liver surgeon to conduct surgery to try and extract the tumor.
Unfortunately, things have not been easy. On Monday, August 7th she was admitted into the Huntsman Center and the next day she was admitted into ICU where she fought through a "code blue", septic shock, and days of levels 8 to 10 pain. They also further discovered that she has an unknown mass on her spleen and an adrenal lesion. Janelle is a fighter! She made her way out of the hospital and back into out-patient care just one week later.
Things went very well for a week as she continued with her radiation treatment and continued to get stronger. Then, on Monday, August 21st, she was again admitted into ICU with an extremely low blood pressure, raised white blood cell count and a low red blood cell count. They are also investigating a possible infection. She needs our support now again so she can again fight her way back out of there!
As you can all imagine, Huntsman Cancer Center isn't cheap! Also, both Dan and Janelle are full-commision sales reps and unable to work during this time. The costs of this specialized care on top of all of the usual monthly bills with no income, will be an extraordinary burden on the family. Any little bit that you are able to donate towards Janelle's fight would be greatly appreciated.
