<div>Hi! My name is Jay Campagne. I am a trans* non-binary individual living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am in the process of undergoing top surgery and I am fundraising to help alleviate some of the financial costs as I have to schedule my surgery outside of Manitoba. The cost of the surgery is roughly 15,000$ CAD.

<div>As a trans* individual, I feel it is so important that trans* folks feel confident in the results of their surgery. Our current healthcare system in Canada limits trans* patients to choose within surgeons of their own province, regardless of their experience in the field of practice. Additionally, there is currently a lengthy wait list, that is getting longer due to a pandemic-related backlog. I have had to look outside of Manitoba for a surgeon I feel comfortable with and therefore will not be having my top surgery covered by Manitoba Health. Choosing to have this life-saving operation outside of Manitoba was not an easy decision as I now have to take on more significant costs. Private medical care will allow me to receive surgery within a year of reaching my goal and receive more successful results. Unfortunately, going private for healthcare is costly, and this is where I need your help.

<div>My surgery is set to take place with Dr. Hugh McLean who runs a private practice in Mississauga, Ontario. Dr. Hugh McLean specializes in transgender affirming procedures and has more than 25 years of experience in gender affirming care. He has prioritized educating himself and his staff to provide the best quality of care for their trans* patients. Dr. McLean recognizes that gender affirmation procedures vitally improve self-esteem and has a lasting impact on a person’s body, quality of life and well-being. Despite the financial costs, I am excited to have my top surgery performed by a surgeon who supports the community and has become an expert in this surgical field.

<div>That being said, I am fundraising in hopes of lessening the financial burden in which I’ll be taking on, which will include travel and accommodations, time off of work and recovery associated costs, in addition to the cost of the surgery.

Cependant, choisir d’avoir cette chirurgie vitale à l’extérieur du Manitoba n’a pas été une décision facile, car je dois maintenant assumer des coûts plus élevés.

Malgré les coûts financiers, je suis ravie de faire effectuer ma chirurgie par un chirurgien qui soutient la communauté et qui est devenu un expert dans ce domaine.
