Jan Zanetis Fund

Approximately two weeks ago, our very dear friend Jan Zanetis was hospitalized in NY.   Her journey isn't over and she and her family could use our help!  Please give to help with travel for her family back and forth from KY and TN.  Going through this tramatic experience AND being away from home have added to the expenses for Jan and her family.

Her story:  A Visit to New York
"On a beautiful Saturday in March my enemies were mobilizing within me. While I happily board the train from Washington to New York, some large blood clots in the Left Ventrical of my heart had started to break loose.  Clueless, I enjoyed an afternoon and evening with my son and his precious family. By Sunday, I knew something was up with my body.  Both legs were numb and tingly.  My family took me to the NY Presbyterian hospital ER.  After 6 hours they still didn’t know what was wrong with me and sent me home, having given no tests or interventions for the pain.  My legs stopped hurting that evening but I soon realized that was just a short reprieve.

I was alone at my son’s house the next morning.  My legs again went numb and tingly but rapidly switched to pain.  Imagine a Charlie Horse in both legs that never stops!  I called an ambulance which took me to Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.

They did better at figuring out what was wrong with me.  The first surgery lasted 9 hours.  They removed clots from both legs and opened up 4 patches of muscle in my calves in order to save the arteries.  After this surgery, my son Jordan observed that I was still in extreme pain in the abdomen.  There were pieces of clots in the groin that needed to be removed, resulting in surgery 2.

The aftermath of this nightmare was one traumatized lady in a scary hospital far from home.  I have been in Montefiore for 2 weeks now.  The worst thing is when they have to change the filters attached to the wounds in my calves. The plan is to do a skin graft from my thighs to the calves, in a week or so.  Once the graft “takes” I will move to a Re-Hab center north of the city, to learn how to walk again.

My husband, Alex, is here for the second time and my middle son, Adam, drove all the way from Nashville to take care of me when I was pretty bad off.  Jordan and Catherine have provided daily comfort and little goodies like chocolate ice cream.  I look forward to having Will and Kate join me soon.  But most of all, I look forward to being able to step into my seat on a flight headed home!"
