At 37 years old, Jamilah should be admiring art, attending to her beloved vegetable garden, and living life to the fullest. A vibrant woman with a smile that brightens a room, Jamilah has a heart of gold. Unfortunately, she has been in a fight for her life.
On June 23, 2016, Jamilah was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her doctors suggested an aggressive and immediate treatment so on July 8, 2016 she started chemotherapy. She continued this treatment until September 2016 but despite their efforts, the tumor kept growing. Because of this, Jamilah underwent a double masectomy on October 11, 2016 - just four short months after finding out she had cancer. During this surgery, the doctors also removed 27 lymph nodes. Just to be sure she would be healthy again, the doctors restarted chemotheraphy after her surgery and continued until January 2017. As yet another measure, Jamilah's doctors started radiation with the hopes that this treatment would prevent the cancer from returning.
April 24, 2017 was her last radiation treatment and she was considered cancer free. Jamilah was elated! She went back to living her best life and even returned to work on May 8th. These moments of joy were short lived because days after returning to work, Jamilah experiened unexplainable coughing. On May 15th, she noticed a lump under her left arm (the same area that was just radiated) so at her first survivorship appointment on May 25th, the doctor's did a biopsy.
A week later, she learned that the cancer returned. The doctors explained that it spread to her lymph nodes, lungs, and the middle of her chest (Adenocarcinoma). The doctors started chemotherapy again but this time it was not effective so on August 31st, she started radiation.
Jamilah has been unable to work. She no longer has benefits or any source of income but still has medical and living expenses. It would be great if we could raise $3K(or more) to help her navigate through the destructive world of cancer. Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated!
