Jamie's Brain Tumor FIGHT!

Donation protected

UPDATE 11/21/2017 - The amount of support that you all have shown and that we have received has been unreal. From the bottom of our hearts we cannot thank you enough! We have been hit with some recent setbacks here in the past couple days. Jamie’s tumor removal was successful but she has major nerve damage and paralysis on the right side of her face that is going to need future surgery to try and repair. Also, we are back in the ICU due to her brain fluid leaking. We had to rush to the emergency room so that they could perform a spinal tap! They are draining the fluid through her lower back in the hope that the area in her brain seals. If it does not they will have to go back in her brain and repair the area that it’s leaking from. Another issue is our medical insurance, our deductible and out-of-pocket costs start over on December 1st. Because of that we have increased our goal in the hope that we can cover these unforeseen surgeries coming up. Thank you to all who have supported us through our FIGHT!

November 8th, 2017 - It looks like life has decided to take my family and I down a pretty rocky path and we've definitely got a long road ahead of us! But with our faith in Christ, support from our family / friends, and determination to get through it all, we will be okay!!!

January, of this year I started having some eye twitching and headaches that my General Practitioner thought was due to work related stress. In June, the symptoms increased and got worse when I started having facial spasms and paralysis. In July, I lost the hearing in my right ear.  After being referred to a neurologist I was sent in for an MRI on August 1st. I was first diagnosed with having a 4.75 CM (golf ball is 4.27 CM) Brain Tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma.

After being diagnosed I had numerous consultations with a couple of misdiagnosis! Originally, diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma, it is actually a much larger and rare Brain Tumor called a Meningioma (5.25 CM). A Meningioma is a tumor that forms on membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord just inside the skull. Specifically, the tumor forms on the three layers of membranes that are called meninges. The tumor is pushing up against my brain stem putting pressure on my main artery to my brain and nerves causing the loss of hearing, facial spasms, facial numbness and some major headaches! Most Meningioma's are benign but 10% are malignant and there is definitely a concern about the size of it but we won't know anything more until the surgeons can get in there. We have decided to go at it with a team approach, Dr Friedman from USC and Dr Schwartz from the House Clinic in L.A. The two have teamed up and will be performing the surgery to remove it at a new facility UCSD has put together. Surgery will be November 9th and lasts about 8-12 hours.

It's a pretty stressful time for my family so I do apologize if I haven't responded back immediately to your messages but we can't thank you all enough for the thoughts and prayers, they have been helpful. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and if any new details arise we will let you know... #WeGotThis

I have set a goal of $20,000 in the hopes that my family and friends will come together and help us ease the financial burden of our out-of-pocket costs and loss of income. State disability has yet to approve my claim and it looks like I will be out of work for the next couple of months. Anything helps and thank you again for all of your support!

All my love, Jamie.
