On January 30 James went into the hospital to remove a tumour on his kidney. The procedure went as expected and the tumour was successfully removed. He was anticipating returning home by Saturday, February 3 and talked about being back at work within 3 weeks.
Early in the morning on February 2 complications began and he became unresponsive (i.e., “Code Blue”). He was rushed to the OR for emergency surgery where they removed the kidney and found extensive internal bleeding. The remaining kidney and his liver stopped functioning. Internal bleeding persisted. James was in severe crisis. After a lengthy surgery he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit. He remained unconscious for a few days and in critical condition. He spent two weeks in ICU and was recently moved to the Step Down Unit. James’ liver is still not functioning and the remaining kidney is on dialysis. He receives therapy daily.
James will remain in the hospital for an undetermined amount of time. When he is released he will require months of recuperation and continued medical attention.
He has a long, hard journey ahead to learn to live with this life altering situation.
As a small business owner, James has no income while not working. Donations of any amount are very much appreciated and will go towards living and medical expenses (therapy, prescriptions, transportation, etc.).
