James’ Start up College Fund

My name is James Brooks, I was born and raised on Sint Maarten. I’m 22 years old and have finally obtained my (birthright) Dutch nationality (after 3 years of persistency). This means I can finally move to the Netherlands to pursue my tertiary education.

 I have already been accepted to pursue my Bachelors degree at HAN university, studying social work. I will eventually move on to pursue my degree in psychology after I have completed my propodeuse year(first year).

 I was in foster care for 6 years and I have seen first hand how the social work system is lacking and the improvements it needs to better equip children like me for adult life and combat the trauma caused by physically or verbally abusive parents.

 As a future psychologist I aim to ensure my community is heard and their needs tended to.

 I want to be the change that I want to see in the world.

 I’m making this Gofund me to accumulate my start up fund to purchase the necessary furnitures, schooling laptop, winter clothing and a deposit for housing.

 When you support me, you invest in improving youth care on Sint Maarten.
