James L. Crawford Elks Lodge Fire Recovery

Donation protected
This past November, The James L. Crawford (Pratt) Elks Lodge #322 located at 220 Sunset was the unfortunate location of a major fire. This tragic event completely destroyed and demolished the kitchen as well as caused significant smoke damage throughout the building.

Luckily, as the fire blazed, Exalted Ruler Willie J. Campbell and Brother Greg L. Pee were able to act quickly to control the fire to the best of their ability until the Fire Department was able to arrive and extinguish the blaze. Their heroic acts saved the building from further significant damage or potentially worse.

Unfortunately insurance policy only covered fixed assets; the cleaning and replacement of furnishings were not included in this coverage. Due to COVID 19 related closures and restrictions, the lodge revenue has been significantly affected and the finances are very limited. Currently they are caught up on all taxes and utilities but with the loss of revenue and accruing renovation costs, it has become a struggle to find a way to make it all work.

The James L. Crawford (Pratt) Elks Lodge #322 is a charitable organization that provides a multitude of services and supports to not only our immediate Westside Ann Arbor Community but the greater Washtenaw County community as well. Ann Arbor's James L. Crawford Elks Lodge is part of the national Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, a fraternal organization founded in 1899 by black men denied entry into existing fraternal groups. It also serves as the home of its sister organization the Daughters of the Elks - Daisy Chain Temple no. 212 and has been located on Sunset Road, overlooking North Main Street and the Argo Dam, since 1922.

Any support provided to help this long standing institution out would be greatly appreciated. We hope to continue to support the community for many years to come.

Thank you for your support.
