Jambo Volunteers Sponsorship Program

Donation protected
Jambo Volunteers is a Community Based Volunteer Organization working at the grassroots level on education and community development in Kenya. We began our work in 2009. We work at a community level on education and community development interventions, particularly in the communities of Maasai land, Kenya. We work to improve the lives of the people in these communities through education and food programs, providing medical care and medicines, and fair trade pay for beautiful, handmade works of Maasai art and jewelry. We are currently seeking sponsorship to pay tuition and expenses for four students that wish to continue their education. The students are profiled and their educational expenses are itemized below.

Our fundraising goal of $5000 will cover all educational and related expenses for these four children for one year of school. For each student, this includes:
School Tuition: $752 (one year, three terms)
Uniforms: $92
Books and School Supplies: $62
Food, toiletries, other essentials: $185
Mattress: $32

Grace Shenia Nkorruma is 14 Years old and completed her examinations in 2018 for admission to secondary school. She comes from a vulnerable home in remote Maasai village called Mashuuru. Her father, a traditional Massai Shepard, has three wives and 8 children. Her parents were able to send one child on to secondary school and chose to send her brother, which often happens in Massai homes. With Grace Shenia at home she is at risk of being married of at a young age. Jambo is committed to helping Grace Shenia follow her dreams of completing high school and having much brighter future.

Margaret Mumbi is also 14 years old. She completed her primary school in the year 2018 after completing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). This is done in Kenya in order to for a child to graduate from primary school to secondary school. She qualified to join PCEA Kimuka Girls secondary school but her parents were unable to afford it. Her mother works as a housekeeper and her father is a day laborer. Their hopes are that their first born will get education and one day help them out of poverty. Through the help of generous Jambo donors like you, Margaret has been able to attend Form 1 through scholarships. We are hoping to secure funding so that she can continue for next year and beyond. Margaret Mumbi dreams of becoming a journalist in future, and your donations are helping her achieve this.

Sola Naserian is also 14 years old. Sola qualified to join PCEA Kimuka Girls secondary school. Before she was able to enroll in school, Sola was raped and as a result, got pregnant. She has had to stay home and take care of the baby. Her parents are unable to support her to go to school as now they have to support the baby and her 3 siblings. Sola hopes to be able to join secondary school so she may have a bright future for her and her family. She is now more determined than ever to make it. Help Sola achieve her dreams by sponsoring her.

Samuria is 11 years old. I first met Samuria on my trip to Kenya in Summer 2012 to work with Jambo Volunteers. Samuira is an orphan and was living more or less on the streets and being passed around to various family members prior to coming under the wing of Jambo Volunteers. Both of his parents had died of AIDS and he was born HIV positive. Jambo Vounteers has been sponsoring him and taking care of him since 2012. He is currently in his first year of Primary School and stays in the Shelter Children's Home. On weekends and holidays, he stays with Luis, the director of Jambo Volunteers. Smuira's expenses are higher than the other three students due to regular check ups and medical care necessary to manage his condition. He also suffered serve malnutrition at a very early age so ensuring he has a well balanced diet and medical care are crucial for Samuria.
