Jamall Osterholm FW18 Collection

Hi Everyone! My name is Jamall Osterholm.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a Menswear Fashion Designer who recently graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design class of 2017. My art, in all forms, aims to put myself into context. My emotions, my mind, and my body. Unpacking the essence of my own masculinity through the perspective of my blackness has been the focus of my work for the past few years. My latest work has created a conversation between myself and my audience. Channeled through an Afrofuturistic aesthetic, it opens doors that I have yet to explore within my work and myself. Through fashion, I am allowed to realize and share my most idyllic self.

Since Graduation it has been increasingly difficult to continue to peruse my own work. Coming out of school, I was so excited to continue feeding off of the momentum I had gained from my thesis collection in New York Fashion Week but the reality of my situation has since sunk in. Trouble paying for my work has put a complete hold on my hopes of making a second collection.

For the past few months I have been busy collaborating with and working for different stylists and designers while refining my brand and and gaining following through social media. My post graduation success has included not only showing RISD’s collection 17 but at New York Fashion Week and London Graduate Fashion week as well as being featured on different sites and blogs, most notably, I-D magazine and Vice.

I now have the amazing opportunity to once again show my work professionally. I have been sponsored to show my own collection at the Rhode Island Convention center during New England Style Week in February which includes a full runway production. Having a show like this is something that designers only dream of. I have been fortunate enough to have had an experience like this once and it would be a blessing If I could have the opportunity to do it again.

I have managed to put together a small studio where I can make this collection a reality but now, I need help funding the materials for the collection itself and this is why I am turning to Go Fund Me. My Show would be happening in late February which is a short turn over time for a collection but with help, I am more than confident that I can make my collection and make the most out of this opportunity!

I am setting a goal for $10,000. I based this figure off of the cost of my previous collection which I was able to pay for using merit and competition scholarships. Anything donated would be greatly appreciate and taken with deep gratitude. The funds would be going toward all aspects surrounding the collection including:

Muslin sample fabrics
Final Fabrics
Trims, Notions, Hardware
A steamer
Models- accessories such as shoes and styling materials
Transportation to get materials
Shooting- photo shoots, promo for collection, Collection branding

I am attaching a link to an article and interview of Jamall Osterholm by I-D magazine so that you can really get to know and understand my work and why continuing to make is so important to me.
