JAMAICAN KIDS TO SEE BLACK PANTHER

Donation protected
Many of you know several things about me, discerned through my posts or in our conversation:

a)       I love my home country of JAMAICA and the Caribbean in general (So of course, when I learned that there were several islanders starring in Black Panther, my delight could not be eclipsed. Letitia Wright, plays Shuri – Guyana, Winston Duke, plays super villain M’Baku – Tobago, Nabiyah Be plays Nightshade, Brazilian born daughter of Jamaican Reggae sensation Jimmy Cliff, Sydelle Noel plays one of the Dora Milaje warriors - Grenada, Shaunette Renee Wilson plays a Dora Milaje warrior- Guyanese among others…)

b)      I’m always rooting for EVERYBODY BLACK!

c)       I strongly believe in Black Women Empowerment – (Can we just say DORA MILAJE? I’m OKOYE by the way!)

d)      I love kids!

Representation matters!

Especially for black children. This movie defies traditionally negative stereotypes of black people and firmly plants us in a space and universe which we own and in which we are celebrated. Isn’t that the kind of message we want to give our young people? Agency. Affirmation. Pride.

For these reasons, I was inspired to start this campaign. I want to raise funds to send 40 children from Zion Hill Primary school in Bombay, Manchester (my community) to experience BLACK PANTHER. The funds will go towards chartering a bus and paying for movie tickets and snacks.

I want these young, beautiful black children to see themselves and their possibility reflected in these strong, independent, beautiful black characters; the black King, T’Challa, the fabulous black Queen Mother, Ramonda, the fierce activist Nakia, bad-ass female warriors led by Okoye, and the list goes on.

Some additional details on how the funds will be allocated.
The closet theatre is a 2.5 hours away so your donation will go towards chartering 5 buses. Estimate: $1,375
Movie Tickets for approximately 175 students and chaperones. Estimate1,370
The remaining funds will be divided equally among the 5 institutions and will pay for food and beverages for the students.

The funds will be distributed to the following 5 institutions:
- Zion Hill Primary School
- Bellefield Primary School (my alma mater)
- Bellefield High School
- Ebenezer United Church (kids from the following school – May Day High, Cross Keys High, Ebenezer Primary and Belair High schools)
- Hanbury Home for Children (Salvation Army operated)

I will be the sole individual responsible for handling withdrawals and will send Funds to  each beneificiary from the respective institutions. Each representative will then be responsible for securing and paying for transportion, movie tickets, food and beverages.  They are asked to send photos, videos, testimonials on the day of the event and I will post updates so we can all enjoy!

Thanks for all your support!
