Jamaica Hampton - Housing Fund

Donation protected

We wanted to update everyone on Jamaica Hampton, who was shot by SFPD on December 7, 2019 and hospitalized at SFGH since. He has undergone an above the knee leg amputation and suffered extensive nerve damage in his dominant arm/hand. He was discharged on Saturday, March 7, 2020.

Jamaica was in a program that offered contingent housing when the incident occurred, and was marginally housed. He currently does not have housing at all. He will need close outpatient follow up San Francisco General Hospital for recovery and fitting of his prosthetic leg.

A few of us are trying to organize supports for Jamaica during this critical transition. Jamaica is amazingly resilient and has continually impressed us with how he well he has been coping. Nonetheless, the fact remains that he has experienced tremendous trauma. As you can imagine, the transition following this 4-month hospitalization into the community with new health challenges is going to be difficult.

We are grateful for those who donated - with these funds we've been able to support Jamaica as he transitioned out of the hospital. The most important thing now is that we provide a steady source of housing for Jamaica as he goes to appointments in SF. All funds raised will go directly to housing for Jamaica until he is approved for SSI.

Do No Harm Coalition connected with the #Justice4LuisGóngoraPat team to support Jamaica. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
